Ambusta Mundi (scorched earth)

"People were beginning to forget, what horrible suffering the war had brought them. I did not want to cause fear and panic, but to let people know how dreadful war is and to so stimulate peoples power of resistance" - Otto Dix

This project exists to discuss war. Not war as a single event, but as a phenomenon. An endless pattern that humanity repeats throughout history, with increasingly severe consequences and greater destruction. The damage war can inflict upon us is so severe that it is difficult to repair, not only now, but for all future generations.

Through these works, I attempt to create a timeless depiction of the destruction and suffering of war, detached from politics, sides, or specific events. Alongside my artwork, I have gathered quotes from soldiers and civilians from various wars and conflicts throughout history. My works are created on the pages of history books to enhance the significance of the theme.

While war is a part of everyday life in vast parts of the world, far too many of us have forgotten what war is. We close our eyes and refuse to see the atrocities around us, or to acknowledge that war and conflict increasingly affect and touch us all. When we ourselves become victims of war, will we still refuse to face reality and let it consume us? I believe we must begin to confront what we do not wish to see.
